Navid Negahban to play Pharaoh in Prime Video’s Joseph of Egypt

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Iranian actor Navid Negahban, known for The Night Agent and The Old Man, has joined Prime Video’s new biblical series Joseph of Egypt, written and executive-produced by Craig Wright.

The eight-episode miniseries, starring Adam Hashimi as the Prophet Joseph, is currently filming in New Mexico. Joseph of Egypt is being produced in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios and Dallas Jenkins, creator of The Chosen.

The story follows Joseph’s brothers, who—just as in the Old Testament—betray him out of jealousy. Yet in Egypt, he rises to power, only for his past to catch up with him and test him in the ultimate trial.

Other cast members include Alexander Siddig (Foundation) as Jacob, Babak Tafti (Succession) as Simeon, Daniel Pyre (The Cleaning Lady) as Reuben, and Iris Bahr (Curb Your Enthusiasm) as Leah. Also starring are Dakota Shapiro (The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) as Asher, Tanaz Shustari (Hacks) as Elioram, Ruben Vernier (Monsters) as Gad, Amir Malaklou (The Old Man) as Judah, Moran Atias (Animal Kingdom) as Bilhah, Negar Zadegan (Mayor of Kingstown) as Zilpah, Mathis Rateron-Neil (The Night Agent) as Issachar, Shani Atias (The Pitt) as Rachel, and Sia Maleki (The Bones Exist) as Levi.

Negahban will portray Pharaoh Khasekhemre (Neferhotep I) of ancient Egypt. The ruler suffers from terrifying nightmares and grows uneasy as his advisors dismiss them. Against the expectations of his court, he chooses to believe Joseph’s interpretation of his dreams and makes him his counselor.

Negahban recently wrapped production on Hotel Tehran directed by Guy Moshe and is set to appear in season two of Netflix’s The Night Agent. His previous credits include Kandahar, the espionage series Tehran, Legion, season two of Showtime’s Homeland, the role of Sultan in Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin, and Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper.
